What to Expect
You've received an authorization, now what?
Program Intake Procedure
• Ambitions Behavioral Health will begin the intake procedure when referral information is received from the funder (Insurance, Regional Center etc.) and the service authorization is received.
• Following an assessment authorization, the family will be invited to begin an assessment. The family will be contacted after receiving the authorization to schedule the assessment sessions. The assessment purpose is to give the child and family information regarding current skill levels in social, language, play, selfhelp and related skills. In addition, behaviors that may interfere with participation in daily routines and learning activities are identified.
• Based on the assessment, an intervention plan will be developed, if needed. The plan will include specific and individualized curriculum and the recommended services to address the plan. Assessment and plan recommendations will be submitted to the funder within 90 days of the initial assessment authorization. Typical assessments require 16 hours to conduct the interview, direct observation and report composition.
• If the funder approves the plan, you will be contacted by ABH to review the plan and program within two days of the program authorization. If you approve of the plan, sessions will be scheduled. If not, changes will be made to the plan, based on your feedback and you can review the plan as many times as needed, before services begin.

Assessment
What is it?
Functional Behavior Assessment
• Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): This assessment involves data being collected to determine what may be the function or reason for a behavior. The antecedents (triggers) and consequences (what follows the behavior) are analyzed using family/teacher interviews and direct observation.
• Functional Analysis (FA): This assessment involves the assessor triggering behaviors by directing/changing the triggers and consequences to determine what the function or reason for a behavior. This involves family/teacher interviews, observations and assessment sessions. A functional analysis results in an increase in the behavior, therefore must be carefully considered due to safety and ethical risks.
• Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP): After an FBA or FA is conducted and the behavior is needing intervention, a BIP is developed. This provides a plan as to preventing the behavior and using a specific consequence if the behavior occurs.
Skills Assessment
An Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) skills assessment is a tool used to evaluate a child's skills and abilities across a range of domains:

• Social: Interactions with peers and adults
• Language: Communicating and understanding others
• Play: Play with toys, participation in activities and leisure skills
• Living Skills: Caring for self/home and community engagement
• Vocational: Workplace skills and etiquette
• And other related skills
